A WEEK OFF IN THE DESERT IS SOMEWHAT BORING – BUT STILL HOT!!!!

By Ken Wagner
July 14, 2008

It’s nice to get a week off in my racing travels, but I still need to mention some things of interest. I almost went back east to Indiana with my buddy Mike Clark who was driving back for Indiana Sprint Week, but decided to stay home and watch my dogs as the rest of the family headed to Tulsa to visit with family and friends back there. No one here to watch my three little monsters, soooo I guess I’ll get in some quiet time.

The real thunder and lightning is visiting Las Vegas skies this week, so the temps are down somewhat in the high 90’s instead of the 110’s. What a unbelievable noise and night light show, but so far no flash floods. In town this week are the usual Legion baseball games for my grandson and his cousins. Also the pro basketball summer league is going on and I’ll try to force myself to leave the cool confines of my house to maybe go see a few games. Right now I am huddled in my easy chair reading a lot and playing games with the “boys”.

The 2008 Legends of Ascot event is coming soon so check it out on: http://www.legendsofascot.com/index2.html to get signed up. The honories this year are Chuck Hulse, Ned Spath, Billy Boat, Carl Allerman, Brad Noffsinger, Don Basile, Louie Senter and the Gardner Family. It is October 18th at Perris Auto Speedway and everything begins at 11:00 Am with the bench racing portion, then lunch served between 1 PM and 2 PM. The inductions follow and all for the small price of $50 per person, that includes a ticket to the nights USAC/CRA races. Get on the web page above and sign-up, they always sell out!

There is so much concerning the 18th annual Wagsdash, you have to follow along. The early date of September 6th at Ventura Raceway (like always) will be preceded by the Wagsdash Golf Classic the day before. On race day the festivities begin early so come early as we begin serving lunch about 11:30 AM and everyone is invited to come eat free and get involved in the many fundraisers for the low buck racers purse. During the season I have been collecting money from fans and friends who support the cause. So far we have $2360 in the pot and are looking for more.

Here is how to get involved: Call me at 949-981-5497 or e-mail me at winglesswarriors@aol.com and let me know what you can do to help. There are many ways to help including: 1) Donate to the purse ( either cash or any item that would go directly to a racer. 2) Buy one of the two 2009 Wagsdash Calendars to be out by the end of this month. One is the normal racing version and for the first time Mrs Wags created a drivers version with no race cars in it, just sexy shots by Doug Allen of your favorite stars. They are $20 each with half going to the Wagsdash purse. 3) Bring your bag of change to go in the Lafond jar of change that goes to the driver who passes the most cars in the Wagsdash, except for the winner, and last year it was $510! 4) Sponsor the T-shirt. Get you or your business on the annual Wagsdash T-shirt with spots from $100 to $1000 available. Steve Lafond has a $500 challenge going this year and already one person has met it. 5) Sign up for the golf tourneywith the purse getting a portion of the money raised there. 6) Donate racing memorabilia to the annual auction with all the money received there going into the purse. 7) Plan ahead to come early and enjoy the pit stop contest and the Sexy Drivers Pageant

The 1st annual Wagsdash Golf Classic is gearing up. It will be at the Sterling Hills Golf Club in Camarillo on Friday September 5th. Plenty of fun with a free putting contest for prizes, a hole in one contest, also featuring Troy Rutherford as the Celebrity Driver "long ball hitter" who will for a small fee, hit your ball on the long drive hole. A lot of fun will be had with drivers and fans playing together followed by a nice buffet dinner afterwards. Anyone who did not play can still go to dinner for a small $25 fee and enjoy the fun and games. Print out the entry blank and send it in. The Wagsdash will benefit from the proceeds of the tournament. You or your business can sponsor a hole or a Tee, so do it! Click here to get the Wagsdash Classic entry form Classic entry form (.pdf) and print it out. If you don't have Adobe reader, go to adobe.com and download the free reader, then print it out.

There will be special rates at the Country Inn & Suites nearby for those who come early to play as they are offering a discount room special for the dates of 9/5 and 9/6......A Special rate of $89 plus tax...total of $97.01 per night......one or two nights are okay....reservations need to be made by 8/25 to qualify.....ask for the Ventura Raceway/Wagsdash special. Breakfast included and they have ample parking in front for tow rigs. Call 805 983 7171 or e-mail to Alyce.Bosacki@Countryinns.com at 1405 Del Norte Road, Camarillo CA 93010.

So, think about getting involved and do it. For my Wagtimers, let me know what shirt sizes you are as we’ll be doing a new one for the workerbee’s. It is less than two months off, so ………………………………………

See ya at the PAS this coming Saturday, so look for me in my Mule when the gates open out front. Stop by and lets talk about the 18th annual Wagsdash.
