Muriel always made the barbeques special with the colorful set-up and the yummies avaiable to everyone. Trophy Dave's Teriyaki Sticks were famous and delicious and to die for, still are!

Trophy Dave stands next to the man who owns Taco Bravo and provides most of the food served at the annual feeds. Thursday hot dog night, Friday Taco and Burrito night and Saturday at noon Spaghetti for everyone. All donations, like everything that happens at the Trophy Cup, goes into the Make a Wish Coffers.
Trophy Dave is always involved in the feeds and he and his family and friends work very hard to make it happen each eyar.
Trophy Dave is having fun at the spectacle he created 25 years ago. The Make a Wish total donation is nearly 2 million dollars now, so think about that for a minute. That is in addition to the $200,000 purse he pays the racers. All this for 360 winged cars and their drivers who come from all over to compete.
Jessica is always the bartender for Trophy Dave and she gets a little help from another granddaughter Tracy here.

Pat and Ray Williams have always been there for Trophy Dave. They owned the Payless Rockery sprinter that Doug Wolfgang ran on the WOO tour.
Marilyn and Muriel were always decorating the feeding barn for the next feed or tearing down the decorations and clean up. They had a lot of help, but all of the decoration were really cool and unique

Trophy Dave is a very unique and complex person with a good heart and his eye on making the Trophy Cup better each year. I met Trophy Dave back in the early 80's at Baylands Raceway during a WOO show. He was cooking those Teriyaki Sticks that are famously delicious and we became friends to this day. He guided me when I decided to start the 20 year Wagsdash race for the low buck guys. All the money I collected went to the drivers. After 3 years of watching my event grow, he decided he would create his own race, but his goal was to make money for Make a Wish and still pay the racers well. He picked the 360 wing cars as he could see the future of 410 racing was not so hot in California at the time and it's still dwindling now.
Trophy Dave decided he would invert his race by points earned, thus getting rid of the outlaw format of starting the best in the front of his race. The result was a highly entertaining event each year where the overall winner didn't always win the race, but put on a great show trying to get to the front. It didn't look like a wing race since it didn't string them out nicely! Dave works hard on his race year round to collect the money to keep it going. His wife Muriel is right beside him as she does much of the presentaion process making the side events successful and well arranged. This 2018 edition of the Trophy Cup, the purse was $200,000 and the Make a Wish donation $150,000 with the overall winner getting $25,000 to win. His contribution to the Make a Wish foundation will go over the two million dollar mark in 2019.
Trophy Dave has said for many years he didn't know how long he would keep doing it, but next year is already scheduled with the same astounding numbers and the winner getting a $1000 increase to $26,OOO. I am proud of what he has accomplished. Recognition for the Trophy Cup has earned him some special awards as well as making it one of the highest paying 3 day events in the nation. Even though I am not a wing fan, his race is the best of the best because there is plenty of passing, not just lapping of cars, and that's what racing is supposed to be. Congratulations Trophy Dave, Muriel and all your helpers, keep the good times going with the Trophy Cup.
