Kevin was one of the cool drivers for many reasons. He was a winner and could drive both the midgets and sprint cars. His sone Kevin Jr was always with him and was a special young man. His presence around racing was fun. When Kevin passed away, his son was still around the races. Kevin is missed by all who knew him.
From Wikipedia: One of the country's top open wheel race car drivers Kevin Doty, 43, of Burlington,Iowa died Tuesday morning August 16, 2005 at University Hospital. Doty suffered serious head injuries during the Badger Midget Series feature Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway (Sun Prairie).During his twenty-plus years of racing Doty complied one of the most impressive open wheel driving resumes. Among his driving championships include the 1994 Badger Midget Series title, 1985 MARA Midget Series title, and 1984 & 85 MARA Skoal Dash Championships. Doty won midget series feature events sanctioned by USAC, Badger, MARA, ARDC, NEMA, NAMARS, UMARA, Dairyland, and AMRA to name a few.He won 35 career Badger Midget feature events at Angell Park Speedway. His major midget race wins include: 1994 Belleville Midget Nationals, 1994 Hut Hundred, and five victories in the Pepsi Midget Nationals. He scored eight career USAC National Midget Car wins at tracks ranging from Dundee, N.Y. to Ventura, Calif. Doty also complied an impressive sprint car driving career scoring seven career USAC National Car Series feature wins,including four at Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio). Doty also won many open sanctioned winged sprint car features throughout the Midwest. He also captured the 2001 season opening SCRA event at Manzantia Speedway (Phoenix, Ariz.). Doty competed semi-regularly in the USAC Silver Crown Series with career best finishes of fourth at Rossburg,Ohio, and Clermont,Ind.Many of Doty's victories came driving for father Donald "Bud" Doty a long-time car owner and driver who has fielded cars for over 50 years. Among the other car owners Doty drove for during his career include: Wilke/PAK, Keith & Rusty Kunz, Don Boorse, Larry Cahill, Ralph Wilke, Steve Chrisman, Dave Ellis, Pete Willoughby, Harlan Kittleson, Larry Martz, Hans Lein, Jim Fiscus, D.O.Laycock, and Steve Bento to name a few. Doty is survived by his father Donald, and son Kevin, Jr.
