CRA 1 AM RACE RESULTS

What a day race! I would't believe it, but picture this: Overcast pretty much from the pit opening at 9 am until the sun broke out a little late in the day. Not one MPH of wind all day, so it was really nice. It was a little after the start time when qualifying began and a low low 16 by Damion Gardner did the trick. The C main was fun with some interesting battles as several new faces appeared. Damion won the first 3 lap Snap-on Tools dash and there was a little bumping going on between him and Danny Sheridan. The main was strong with a great track and Bill Rose led the first ten laps until the Demon swept around him like he did several coming from his 5th place starting spot. On the move was Rip Williams from 15th to 2nd where he looked real serious for getting his 100th win today, but Damion kinda cruised a little as he stayed low and waited for Rips challenge. When it came, he was up on top and blasting away to a big win, his 9th CRA and 22nd lifetime. Tracy Hines and Rick Williams came together on the back stretch on lap 8 starting a horrific crash. Tracy then had no steering, the front end was gone, and he just got in Rickie Gaunts's way and Super Rickie then ran into Danny Sheridan and went flying upside down. Danny's car is trash and those three were done for the night. Two laps later Mike Spencer got into a wild end over end crash going into the first turn and only the wall stopped him from flipping much farther. Cary Faas, Charles Davis Jr and Cory Kruseman all got caught up in it, but only Spencer didn't return. He later went to the hospital to get checked. It was great as there were two grooves and many took advantage. Tony Jones ran strong all night, but crashed on the last lap and went from 5th to 12th that quick. I have to admit, even though my view was from next to Scott Diloisio high in the press box, I thought it was a very good race day, even as good as some night events we've seen here. The track stayed good and the main ran in the shade most of the 30 laps. Good race and I am glad I went instead of the 8 basketball games that were scheduled at one locale that featured two of the top teams from back east. If the PAS can control the weather like today, they can keep doing this event even though it was a little chili when I hit the pits at 6:30 or so.
